Howdy! Full disclosure: I just realized it's Monday at 8:49PM. I was focused on revising the outline for my NaNoWriMo novel today and completely forgot about this blog post. Thankfully my husband reminded me.
So.

I'll be watching these while painting, so half paying attention. Once I've purchased the tools and I've begun playing with the materials, I'll watch more closely. Thanks for stopping by! Howdy! This past week I have been working on my NaNoWriMo project. I'm a little over 22k words at the moment. Though, while I did write 2000+ words today, they were for a new revised outline so they don't count towards my total. Anywho, the story is a YA dark fantasy Hansel & Gretal retelling featuring Baba Yaga. It's got a sprinkle of Snow White. The reason I was putzing around with the outline today is I'm not convinced the lead up to a big twist is packing the desired emotional punch, and I'm not sure it's believable for the characters. I've also been spending a lot of time on research because the setting takes place in a vague Slavic pre-Christian, pre-industrialization culture. Slavic fairytales generally begin by stating they occurred in a place far far away and I'm trying to hold to that other-but-similar-worldlyness. If that makes sense.
I am in the midst if 4 woodburnings with more planned. Obviously, meeting my word count pulls me from painting. These are 2 Koroks and 2 Kodamas, replacing those that sold. I also want to make mushrooms, maybe pets, and a nutcracker before December. Hopefully I manage to knock all those out.
I finished reading The Martian by Andy Weir. It was good although the ending felt very tidy, all thing considered. It's an oddly optimistic book throughout and I guess what with the darker shades of contemporary Hollywood, I expected more grit. I mean, The Martian is a movie now, right? It was also heavy in the math and science and while I'm not the audience for that, I respect the authenticity. I might read Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka next, if I don't own any other Russian stories set earlier, for NaNo research.
